Now in their second year, it is currently a very exciting time for Brisbane band The Reversals. Your first impression might be that two years is not a very long time, but that two years has been over 10 years in the making. Three of the members Nathanael, Scott and Chris have been friends since early high school and have since continued working together in their day jobs, which allows them to have the time to write and create music.
“It’s a bit strange coming to work 5 days a week with these guys, and then having to also spend time on weekends playing gigs and rehearsing with them as well – it’s impossible get away from them!”, explains songwriter and lead singer Nathanael Hubbard.
Nathanael is a songwriter who manages to weave extraordinary songs out of everyday living. He writes songs about nostalgia, disappointment and love, and when the mood is right he engages in social comment. He also on occasions collaborates with Brisbane bohemian songwriter Jack Tivoli.
Jack Tivoli first saw Nathanael play solo at a local gig. “Nathanael has a vocal, piano and guitar style that could include him as a folk singer, however his ability and sensibilities go beyond from just being average. When I saw first Nathanael play solo, I was impressed and moved by the performance. I knew this guy had the ability to perform on different platforms”.
The Reversals released the single Costello (Drunk at the Wheel) in 2007, receiving national airplay including Triple J. Their debut album is currently in the making, and is due for release in March 2009. They are also planning to release a single in October this year.
The Reversals play The Globe at 8pm on Friday, the 8th of August for 8 Ball Aitken’s ‘Rebel With A Cause’ album launch.
